David Crawford

Metropolitan Opera Bass-Baritone, David Crawford, is enjoying another busy season in New York. David’s voice has been hailed as “one of the great
young voices in opera today.”

In the 2009-10 season at the Met he will be performing The First
Priest in Die Zauberflote, The Jailer in Tosca, The Wigmaker in
Ariadne auf Naxos, and Ensemble #4 in The Nose. Other assignments
include covering Pietro in Simon Boccanegra and The Gravedigger in
Hamlet.

This past summer he was seen at Des Moines Metro Opera as Caspar in
Der Freischutz. Past seasons at the Met have seen him as Count
Ceprano in Rigoletto, The Imperial Commissioner in Madama Butterfly,
Zuane in La Gioconda, and The Captain in Eugene Onegin

After receiving his BM from Ohio Wesleyan University where he studied
with Robert Nims, David earned his MM in voice from Boston
University. At Boston University he studied with William Sharp and
performed roles such as Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro, Death in Der
Kaiser fon Atlantis, and Frank in Die Fledermaus. As a graduate of
the Seattle Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Florida Grand Opera, San
Francisco Merola, Sarasota Opera, and Utah Festival Opera young artist
Programs, David had the chance to refine his skills with some of the premier young artist programs in the country. During his YAP time, he performed Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro, The Bonze in Madama Butterfly,
Monterone in Rigoletto, and The King in Transformations. He also had
the chance to perform Transformations with the Wexford Opera Festival.
