Gregory Gerbrandt

“Gerbrandt’s enchanting voice moved with direction and energy, as he soared over the orchestra, moving with conviction and grace, like an artist in full command of his craft…Gerbrandt as Marcello stole the show, both vocally and artistically…Every move and look was fueled by passion… -The Charlottesville Daily Progress La bohème 2007

Lyric baritone GREGORY GERBRANDT is making a strong surge into the world of opera bringing a dynamic blend of vocal ability and stage prowess. The young American baritone was praised as, “vocally and dramatically strong…,” by the C-Ville Newsweekly in response to his portrayal of Marcello in La bohème with Ash Lawn Opera Festival. His handsome appearance awarded him “…a lusty Samuel!” in The Trumpet Bray for Glimmerglass Opera’s 2006 production of The Pirates of Penzance. Also, the Nashvillean News stated, “Of the many supporting cast members, Gregory Gerbrandt (Gregorio, Roméo et Juliette) stands out. He sings and acts well, is fit, and manly.”

The Central City Opera played a large part in his early development. Gerbrandt was a young artist there in 2005 and subsequently sang Yamadori and John Shears in Paul Bunyan.

Gerbrandt is creating a prominent name for himself with commanding performances in the title role of Il barbiere di Siviglia in venues across the country. His next Figaro takes him to Opera Theater of Lakeland this November, subsequent to a production of La bohème in which he will sing Marcello with Opera Fort Collins.

The 2007-08 season found Gerbrandt in a myriad of opera roles including Figaro with Asheville Lyric Opera, Opera Fort Collins, and also the Mansfield Symphony in Ohio; Belcore in L’elisir d’amore with Opera Idaho, Marcello in La bohème with Ash Lawn Opera, Silvio in Pagliacci with Opera Fort Collins, and the Revival Singer in Nashville Opera’s world premiere production of Elmer Gantry, the title role of which he also covered.

Gerbrandt is also a frequent concert soloist, having most recently delighted audiences by singing the role of Jesus in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion as well as the baritone solos in Handel’s Messiah, both with the acclaimed Bethany Oratorio Society. He is also a returning soloist with the Internationally heralded Greeley Chorale, having sung the title role in Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and the solos in Messiah. Gerbrandt was the soloist for Das klagende Lied under the direction of Mo. Robert Olson and the Colorado Mahler Festival, and in Haydn’s Paukenmesse with the Nebraska Choral Arts Society.

Greg’s free time is spent playing outdoor sports, fishing in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, avidly following his beloved Colorado pro sports teams, and spending time at the fire department, where he’s been a volunteer firefighter since 2003!
