Simeon Esper

American Tenor Simeon Esper has quickly established himself as a sought-after artist in both the United States and Europe. In the 2010/11 season he will appear with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein as Pedrillo in DIE ENTFÜHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL and returns to Seattle Opera as ein Junge Seemann/Ein Hirt in TRISTAN UND ISOLDE and as Walther von der Vogelweide in TANNHÄUSER. In addition, guest appearances will include the role of Sam Kaplan in a new production of Weill’s STREET SCENE at the Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden, where he has also recently sung Grigori in BORIS GODUNOV and ein Tanzmeister in Strauss’ ARIADNE AUF NAXOS. Further highlights of the upcoming season will include Weill’s SEVEN DEADLY SINS at the Theater an der Wien and DER ROSENKAVALIER with San Diego Opera. In recent seasons, Simeon Esper has sung Sellem in Stravinsky’s THE RAKE’S PROGRESS and Billy in Weill’s MAHAGONNY SONGSPIEL at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Valzacchi in DER ROSENKAVALIER in Cologne, der Steuermann in DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, and covered the role of Loge in DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN in Seattle. February 2009 marked his debut as Mr. Upfold in Britten’s ALBERT HERRING with the Paris Opera Comique, following American appearances as Beppe in PAGLIACCI with San Diego Opera and Sir Bruno Robertson in Seattle Opera’s I PURITANI. Concert appearances include Mendelssohn’s ELIAS with the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra, Bach’s WEIHNACHTSORATORIUM and LES NOCES with the Bielefeld Philharmonic, Offenbachs’s TRAFALGAR at the Offenbach Festival Bad Ems, and Orff’s CATULLI CARMINA at the Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin.
In addition, Simeon Esper has been heard as David in DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG and Graf Elemer in Strauss’ ARABELLA at the Theater Bielefeld, Schapkin in Janácek’s FROM A HOUSE OF THE DEAD with Oper Bonn and Valzacchi in DER ROSENKAVALIER with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. 2008 marked the tenor’s debut with San Diego Opera as Heinrich der Schreiber in TANNHÄUSER, and 2006 his debut in Seattle as der Haushofmeister zu Faninal in DER ROSENKAVALIER.
Mr. Esper is a graduate of Florida State University’s Opera Performance Program, and is a 2007 Stipendiate of the Bielefeld Wagner Society.
