Australian born soprano, Caroline Wenborne, has been singing regularly at the Vienna State Opera since 2007. In her previous season at the Vienna State Opera, Caroline performed Donna Anna in the new production of Don Giovanni. In January of 2011, she performed Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte and in April she also sang Fiordiligi in a concert performance of Cosi fan tutte in Athens with the Vienna State Opera. In November, Caroline will sing Gutrune in Götterdämmerung with Maestro Christian Thielemann at the Vienna State Opera.
During the past two seasons in Vienna, Ms. Wenborne has performed and covered a large number of roles including, Countess (The Marriage of Figaro), Alcina (Alcina), Micaela (Carmen), Vitellia (La clemenza di Tito), Antonia (Contes D’Hoffman), Alice Ford (Falstaff), Amelia (Simon Boccanegra), Mimi (La bohème), Fifth Maidservant (Elektra), Anna (Nabucco), Echo (Ariadne auf Naxos), Ein junges Mädchen (Moses and Aaron), Clothilde (Norma), Gerhilde (Die Walküre), Isotta (Die Schweigsame Frau), and Blumen Mädchen(Parsifal). In the summer of 2009, she appeared as Donna Anna with the Victorian Opera in Australia in a premiere production of Don Giovanni.
She has performed alongside many distinguished colleagues such as Edita Gruberova, Juan Diego Florez, Leo Nucci, Agnes Baltsa, Maria Guleghina, Neil Shicoff, Nina Stemme, Ildebrando D’arcangelo and has sung under the baton of Seiji Ozawa, Daniele Gatti, Adam Fischer, Marco Armiliato, Jérémie Rhorer, Donald Runnicles and Franz Welser-Möst.
As a recipient of Opera Foundation Australia’s - Vienna State Opera Award Scholarship in 2007, Caroline was offered a principal contract as soloist with the company for their 2007/08 season, the only recipient of this Award to date that has been offered a contract. Also in her first season with the Vienna State Opera, Caroline was awarded the 2007 Eberhart Waechter Gesangs Medallien.
As the winner of the German Operatic Award, she became a member of the Oper Köln’s Young Artists Studio in September 2005 where her roles included Curra (La forza del destino), Diana (Orpheus in the Underworld), Slave (Salome) and the Rooster (Cunning Little Vixen).
She was a finalist in many of Australia’s leading singing competitions including the Covent Garden Scholarship, the Music Teachers’ Association Singers Festival, the City of Sydney Opera Awards, the Werner Baer Memorial Award and the Metropolitan Opera Award. She has won the Lady Galleghan Award, the Ian Potter Cultural Trust Award, the Helpmann Foundation Award, the 2003 Bathurst Operatic Aria, and the International Opera Plus Summer School Scholarship in Belgium. Ms. Wenborne has completed a Bachelor of Music in voice and the Diploma of Opera course at the Sydney Conservatory. She speaks English, Spanish, German, and Italian fluently.
