Mihoko Kinoshita is recognized as a compelling interpreter of “Cio Cio San” in Madama Butterfly. Mihoko has performed the role at Vancouver, Detroit, Baltimore, Phoenix, Santa Margherita Festival, Belgrade, and Sofia opera houses. Ms. Kinoshita reprised the role at Royal Albert Hall in London, in the 2010-2011 season to great critical acclaim. Upcoming she will sing return to Vancouver Opera for “Liu” and return to Sofia for “Cio Cio San.”
In her native country Japan, Mihoko sang “Donna Elvira” with Seiji Ozawa in Tokyo. She has sung “Violetta” in La Traviata, “Micaela” in Carmen and “Liu” in Turandot at the prestigious New National Theater in Tokyo. She also appeared as “Mimi” at the Tokyo Bunkakaikan Theater, and “Leonora” with the Verdi project in Saitama.
On the concert stage, Ms. Kinoshita has sung in London’s Wigmore Hall in the George Solti Anniversary concert. She has also sung a gala concert with the Toscanini Philharmonic, conducted by Lorin Mazel. Mihoko has sung the Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony over thirty times. A favorite soprano for Verdi’s Requiem, she has performed the work to great critical acclaim with the Kamagawa Philharmonic, among others.
Ms. Kinoshita was the first-place winner in the 2007 Licia Albanese Foundation, the Santa Margherita International and the Bevagna International Opera Competitions, second place in the Voci Verdiane Competition in Busseto and the Riccardo Zandonai International Opera Competition. Mihoko was awarded the New Nippon Steel Fresh Artist Award and the Idemitsu Music Award, one of her country’s highest honors in the field of arts.
Mihoko was born in Kagoshima, Japan. She completed both her Bachelor and Master’s degree at the Musashino Academy of Music. Mihoko currently resides in New York City.
