American Tenor Simeon Esper is quickly establishing himself as a sought-after artist in both the United States and Europe. In the 2009/10 season he will appear with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein as Der Steuermann DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER and returns to the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris for Kurt Weill’s THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS. In addition, guest appearances will include Ein junge Seeman/Ein Hirt TRISTAN UND ISOLDE with Seattle Opera, and a return to the Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden as Grigori BORIS GODUNOV. Esper will also prepare the role of Loge DAS RHEINGOLD for Seattle Opera’s RING DES NIBELUNGEN, and sings the Tenor Soloist MESSIAH at the Konzerthaus Berlin. Further future engagements include DER ROSENKAVALIER with San Diego Opera, DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE and TANNHÄUSER in Seattle.
In recent seasons, Simeon Esper has been heard as Sellem THE RAKE’S PROGRESS at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, as Der Tanzmeister ARIADNE AUF NAXOS at the Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden and as the Tenor Soloist in Stravinsky’s LES NOCES in Berlin. February marked his debut as Mr. Upfold ALBERT HERRING with the Paris Opera Comique, with whom he sings Laerte MIGNON next season. American appearances included Beppe PAGLIACCI with San Diego Opera and ein junge Diener ELEKTRA as well as Sir Bruno Robertson I PURITANI with Seattle Opera.
Highlights of past seasons include David DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG, Pedrillo DIE ENTFÜHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL and Graf Elemer ARABELLA at the Theater Bielefeld, Schapkin in Janácek’s AUS EINEM TOTENHAUS with Oper Bonn and Valzacchi DER ROSENKAVALIER with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. 2008 marked the tenor’s debut with San Diego Opera as Heinrich der Schreiber TANNHÄUSER, and 2006 his debut in Seattle as der Haushofmeister zu Faninal DER ROSENKAVALIER.
Other previous appearances include the title role LE DOCTEUR MIRACLE and erste Jude SALOME with Atlanta Opera, Brunoro IL GIURAMENTO with the Wexford Opera Festival Ireland, Nathanäel LES CONTES D’HOFFMANN and Scaramuccio ARIADNE AUF NAXOS with Sarasota Opera and PAGLIACCI with Harrisburg Opera. In concert, he has sung the Evangelist WEIHNACHTSORATORIUM and LES NOCES with the Bielefeld Philharmonic, and a reading of Offenbach’s PEPITO and TRAFALGAR at the Offenbach Festival Bad Ems. Simeon Esper is a graduate of Florida State University’s Opera Performance Program, and is a 2007 Stipendiate of the Bielefeld Wagner Society.
